I have a SporTrak Pro. It has no "problems" acquiring satellites. Any GPS
will have a problem with reception through a car windshield, especially on a
cold start where the entire almanac must be downloaded or if the car is
moving or has a metallic tinted windshield. No GPS should be expected to
even receive signals indoors. If you do, great. If you don't, that's
pretty normal behavior. In short, I don't think you have a defective unit.
Take it outside with a clear horizon, no canopy, no buildings, etc. and turn
it on. If it gets a fix from a cold start within 15 minutes, that's normal.
I also own Garmin 12xl and Magellan Tracker GPSs, and I would say the
SporTrak Pro (with internal antenna) has reception equal to or better than
these units with external antennas.
