The Gekos run on AAA cells and are thus smaller and lighter. They also
have some 'games' which I assume interests you as little as it
interested me. Both those and the eTrex do not do wonderfully well under
tree cover, although the new colo(u)r eTrex seem greatly improved in
that regard (and rather more expensive too. 8>.).

You also missed out the foretrex/forerunner models, and the 60x and the
76x models (and we're still on hand-helds here).

I personally use an eTrex Venture with PC software to upload routes and
download tracks, and carry a paper map. Works well, except under trees.
The 'original basic (yellow) eTrex' is well obsolete, and you'd be
better off with the second generation models (of which the Venture is
probably the cheapest).

If I win the lottery I'll get a 60C or CS, but you can't get any useful
trekking maps for the UK to upload, so if you want useful maps, you'd
have to draw your own (not a trivial task).
