Here's my recent experience for my New Garmin Quest. If anyone can help it
sure would be appreciated. Why the Quest? I'm a newbie and wanted my first
unit to be portable, waterproof, auto routing, and voice guidance in car.
I ride a Harley and wanted an easy mount for the GPS, and this unit worked
great. I may need bifocals while riding though!
My recent use was a 1200 mile motorcycle ride from Clearwater, FL to
Fairhope, AL. Unit held all the maps I needed. Battery life lasted all day,
and at night, unit automatically turned on when I was coming to turns. Saved
my *** in a heavy rain when we could see road signs!
Now the problem Questions, and this is not a Quest problem, but Garmin. The
major reason I bought it was for Emergency use. During the Trip we needed a
Harley Dealer and the Unit refused to find ANY Harley dealer. Not by name,
contains, or even EXACT ADDRESS!
Yes, I loaded all info for the cities. I had 3/4 of FL, lower Georgia,
Alabama, LA, and Carolinas loaded. I tried this later from the PC had had
same problems.
Garmin won't answer this, but did tell me they have an exclusive with BMW.
Yep finds BMW dealers. How can they do this? Does anyone know where I can
find waypoints to load for Harley dealers, or an easy way to do it? For fun
I Tried Chevrolet, and Caddilac... guess what, same issue. But if you have
address or exact name, it WILL find them.
Also, We tried to find several Bed and Breakfasts. When we called them we
couldn't get through, so we just showed up. Not only were we informed area
codes were changed years ago, the places (both) had CLOSED 5 YEARS AGO! Same
with several resturants.
I understand things change, but 5 year old data for a current program?
Please help, pass this on, or give advice other than changing units.
Mike
