The high-accuracy farming systems use Differential GPS where one
receiver in a fixed location receives the same satellite signals
as the mobile receiver. The receiver in a fixed location determines
what errors there are in the satellite signals and sends that
information to the mobile receiver so the effect of the errors can
be removed. Your GPS V also has the ability to accept differential
corrections and use them to improve the accuracy, but you'd need
to add a radio receiver for getting the differential data and it
would only work in places where there's a suitable fixed station
broadcasting the data.
Trimble makes many of the GPS systems used in agriculture and
their website www.trimble.com is a good source for information
about GPS in general and DGPS in particular.
