All ports to GPS devices are serial. Mine has an RS-232
port and that's what I use for USAPhotoMaps. Others use
USB (Univ. Serial Bus) protocol and that's also supported
by USAPhotoMaps.
I have never seen a GPS receiver with a parallel port, which
would be the alternative to serial.
