I don't doubt it, OTOH, gasketting propeller drive shafts has been going on for
over a century with a good track record. Controlling a sail in two axis will
require more power than controlling a rudder due to the mass and moments of the
sail... so the articulation and actuators will be larger and consume more power
than a rudder actuator and a simple rotating vertical axis for the sail.
Your project, so do as you like.
