My home county added a 1% local-option sales tax, used totally for road
improvements. It worked very well; we have better-quality roads than a
much-higher-populated county next door. I think that 99+ % of the population
uses roads in one form or another.
Flip side: I don't have school-aged children, but have no choice on paying
the school tax in my county. I don't mind.
