It depends on what your questions are.

Aviation newsgroups will be better for questions specifically about use of
GPS in an aviation environment, including (but not limited to) available
services (direct routing, for example), approaches (availability, cloud and
visibility minima, etc.), use of particular GPS models (entering flight
plans, using navigation guidance, slaved autopilots, etc.), and the like.

GPS newsgroups will be better for technical issues applicable to all GPSs,
like how they work, satellite almanac, accuracy, future technology, etc.

Of course, individuals in either newsgroup category may have knowledge of
topics found in the other, including aviation GPS issues. But this is not
justification for cross-posting.

For what it's worth, it's my opinion that you should consider the nature of
your question, and post only to the newsgroup where that question is BEST
asked and answered. This even includes limiting the aviation newsgroups to
which you've posted (for example, r.a.military is relevant only for military
usage of GPS, r.a.owning is relevant only for issues like purchase and
installation, and r.a.piloting would be most relevant for GPS user topics),
but certainly would preclude cross-posting to newsgroups that don't even
share top-level hierarchy, nevermind secondary hierarchy (e.g. not even all
in the same "rec.*" tree).

I almost never will answer a post inappropriately cross-posted, except
perhaps to point out that it's inappropriately cross-posted, or to discuss
other "meta" issues with respect to the post (inasmuch as your post is
really a "meta-question", I don't mind offering an opinion in answer). I
will ALWAYS junk any thread inappropriately cross-posted (immediately after
making my initial reply, in those rare cases when I make any reply). Many
people share that philosophy, so a really good way to get lots of people to
ignore your post altogether is to cross-post it.

Pete
