Does your computer have a Serial Port connector? Many new computers only have
USB connectors, so you have to buy a USB-to-Serial adapter. Here is a link to
a page that describes the setup.

Several companies make USB-to-Serial adapters. Garmin makes one I know works
with their own adapters, and Gilsson makes one that is claimed to work with
Garmin receivers. I don't know if either works with Magellan receivers, but I
assume so. The Gilsson adapter is sold by Amazon.com and the Garmin adapter is
sold by REI, among others.
