Well, I'm back after an arduous effort to get Linux to sync off XP Pro (with SP2). I
think my conclusion is that XP Pro does not provide an NTP server at all or that it
is not compatible with Linux.
Do your changes produce a useful NTP server on XP pro?
I found a web site, <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314054#EXTERNAL>, that
supposedly produces an authoritative NTP server by modifying the registry. I tried
the modification and immediately ran into a problem at step 3. It requires entering
the value TimeInSeconds to what is a binary field. This does not seem right to me.
Comments?
As an aside, I exported the registry before attempting to make the 9 step changes,
but had to import the file when I made a slight goof in an early step. After regedit
apparently reloaded the file, it protested that some values were in use and could not
be restored. What's that about. My system seems OK.
