Certainly the Apple II, Commodore Pet, and Radio Shack TRS-80 were all
very popular machines with home users. They competed heavily in this
market from 1977 on. (I have a Commodore Pet by the way along with a few
other early machines). These there machines, collectively defined the 8
bit market for many years. IBM defined the 16 bit market.
