The 2610 I bought about two weeks ago came with firmware ver 4.20
installed. Everything worked fine with the exception of renaming a
saved route. Each time I tried, the display would continue to dim
until it totally disappeared. The unit would then reboot itself.
After the reboot everything would again work fine, but any attempt at
renaming a route would result in another shutdown and reboot. I sent
an e-mail to tech support reporting this problem. Within 36 hours I
received a reply that stated the reported condition was a known
problem with firmware ver 4.20. I was instructed to download and
install ver 3.90 from the Garmin website. I was somewhat reluctant to
overwrite a later version with an older one so I telephoned tech
support to verify that the e-mail instruction was valid. The tech I
spoke with verified the e-mail was correct. So, I replaced version
4.20 with 3.90 and just as tech support indicated the problem was
rectified. The phone tech said that 4.20 had somehow been released
prematurely and had not been thoroughly debugged.
