This is part of American's canned answer to anyone who asks about their
policy on GPS use. I got the same thing. When I asked them to provide
me with a reference to the documentation on the alleged incident, I got
this reply:
"The information I gave you came from our chief pilot. While I am sure
the information is documented somewhere, since it's not my place to
question what he says, I'm afraid I am unable to provide the reference
material you requested."
I've tried to find some kind of authoritative documentation of an
incident where GPS use is alleged to have caused some kind of
interference with aircraft operation or instrumentation, but I haven't
been able to find anything. It may be there, but I haven't been able
to find it. I did, however, find documented cases where other commonly
allowed electronic devices were suspected of causing such interference.
