The latest version of Johan Franson's GPSTools has a new function "Position.Distance" that makes it fairly easy to compute elapsed distance based on track coordinates that are measured by the GPS at an approximate rate of 1 measurement per second. There is still the problem of knowing whether or not the GPS receiver is actually in motion or is standing still or if there are incorrect coordinates. The best set of data screening parameters is still being determined.
