Re: newbie geo cacher looking for a good gpd handheld

I just got an Magellan Explorist 600 (high end). It and its brothers 400,
and 500 have software and POI menu systems to accomodate downloading
geocache site data off the web via your PC and into memory without many
keystrokes. I have seem dedicated geocachers complain that the limit of
"only" 200 cache locations per data file is too small. You can have any
number of files stored on the SD card depending on card capacity, but each
can (apparently) only contain 200 geocache POIs.
This is a small unit with Li-Ion battery, all the bells & whistles, color
screen. Good performer. The 500 is color screen lacks the barometer,
thermometer and electronci compass. The 400 is B&W screen, no bells and
whistles. Otherwise these models are very similar. Take a look at the
owners manual at the Magellan website.
