VCOM Voice Only GPS Info Wanted

I recently bought a VCOM, a voice operated car navigation unit from Ebay. It seems to work ok except it is voice only and there is nothing in the manual that mentions any other ways to access the unit. There is, however, a RJ45 jack on the box, and probably a 10BaseT interface. I figure this must be the "back door" used by factory. Has anyone hacked the interface, or information to share? I don't plan to modify anything but like to know how updated and how detailed the maps and other data are. With voice, I can't even get the unit to tell me the software version number. Also, it uses a 2.5", 20G hard drive to store everything. I would like to make a copy of the drive just in case the original one crashes.
