GpsMap 76c marine basemap questions

Well, I did it, lost my eTrex Legend in the drink while jetskiing this
weekend due to my own carelessness and stupidity. Oh well, got a good
3 seasons out of it, and I always said the reason the Legend was a
great choice for this application (and for me, space cadet that I can
be), because it's so moderately priced that if and when it gets lost,
stolen, dunked, or busted, it's no huge disaster.
Anyway I need to get another gps before my next ride, too used to 'em
now. So I'm thinking of either getting another Legend, they are down
so low in price now it's a beautiful thing, I saw one for about $130 I
think. OR upgrading way up to the Map 76c that sets my heart aflutter.
Now part of the way I can justify spending more is that with the
Legend, I NEED to get/use the expensive MapSource CD-ROM, Inland
Waterways I think it's called. The one I have from before is now
either hopeless lost or scratched up if I do find it, so I'd just be
resigned to getting another one. I know without it there is way way
less shoreline detail in the Legend's base map which makes it pretty
much useless esp. if you're used to having the details loaded in.
So I want to know how the Map76C's pre-installed marine basemap
compares to the Legend's with or without the MapSource loaded. Is the
shoreline detail on a 76c, before you load in any MapSource or
BlueChart, similarly sketchy? (For instance, on the Legend, where we
ride in Long Island, there are small bays, harbors and creeks that my
friend can't see on his newly purchased, non-loaded-up Legend, that I
could see on mine, loaded up with the MapSource stuff, before I lost
it, d'oh!) Also, I see on screenshots on Garmin's web site it looks
like you can see buoy #'s and water depths on the screen. Is this even
before you load the BlueChart maps on to it, that you can see this
information?
.
