Delorme

I have used the Delorme with my laptop for six months or so and I like
it with a few exceptions.

I am using either of two laptops, both IBM Thinkpads. One is an old
380XD. Very very slow to load and to enter routes. Works OK except
screen extremely hard to see in sunlight.

The other is a much later Thinkpad A31p. The screen is still not easy
to see in the bright light, but it is passable.

I have concern that the A31p hard drive might be damaged, as I drive a
Ford F-350 and with 80 lbs. tire pressure in the rear, rough roads are
just that; rough.

Also, there is the danger the laptop will get ripped off, so I mostly
use the old slow 389XD.

So questions: Is anyone using extensively a Thinkpad for GPS
navigation and what has been your luck with the hard drive? This is a
serious question to me because I have everything on my A31p;
accounting and all records for two companies and probably everything I
have learned in the past 20 years.

Is there a combination of hand held iPod or whatever that would be
better?

I see all of the objections to software and map coverage in the
discussions about Garmin and since I have no issues with Delorme of
that nature, I lean towards some solution that allows me to use
Delorme.
