I just got a Garmin GPS 10 Deluxe and installed the accompanying Que software on my PocketPC. While playing with it I noticed that it continued to plot my "location" even when the GPS has lost its view of the satellites. The map marker kept moving along down the street even though I was completely stopped in a left-turn lane. After I'd made the turn the GPS re-acquired the satellites and the marker instantly jumped to the correct location.
"Dead reckoning" navigation, to allow the unit to cope with momentary loss of satellite lock.
I found it interesting because this is the first mapping application
I've seen that uses it (not counting the vehicle navigation systems
which use speed pulses and even steering angle inputs to deduce the
position of the vehicle even when satellite lock is lost).
This must be your first Garmin unit. Garmin has been doing this on all their units for 10 years.
