I agree with all of these posts.
I find that the rubber of the Garmin suction cup is not very soft,
certainly not like a rubber dart. I rub mine on my pant leg a few times to
warm it up. Putting it on cold seems hopeless. I apply some water to help
it seal, press in on the lever, and I'm good for anywhere from five seconds
to several weeks before it falls off unexpectedly. If it stays on five
seconds, it seems to stay on for quite a while, but it does eventually fall
off.

I'm not sure if I installed it right side up or upside down... If I mount
it so that the eTrex can flop around, I have actually had the eTrex power
off, a complaint from bicyclists, as the batteries bounce inside. I
position it so that the base is just touching the dashboard, or just off,
so that it can't bounce so much.

I do move it from vehicle to vehicle. I've tried sticking it to airline
windows, but that surface just seems too cold. You can't pivot on the
vertical axis. This means it points straight out from the windshield. I
would like to have it angled toward me, without putting it directly in
front of me.

I bought mine from tvnav.com for $22.
