You will need to use a com port (as opposed to a drive letter) to connect to
a program like Ozi for "moving map" transmissions of current position fixes
to the receptor program. If you only want to move waypoint, map, or track
files, using USB to get a drive letter designation will be all you will
need.
There is a "translation" program on the explorist disk. It is used to
translate the region output of the MapSend programs ( I only use MapSend
Topo 3D) into a form understood by the Explorist series.
I believe that if you are trying to use the GPS for the transmission of
current fix data (moving map). windows XP will install a serial driver
automatically, but you will have to provide one for Windows 98.
