OK so the urban area isn't pre-loaded in the 2gig area? What about
POIs? I guess that's what the user memory could be used for.

with your map selection AND how in-flexible you want to be in your
planning you might be able to get away with it.
Of course if you're going on short trips or repeated trips to the same
area such as for business it's less of an issue. But think of how
great a unit this could be for the summer backpacker if it had an SD
card slot, or even euro spec memory? Why sell a unit who's basic
function is travel yet give it market specific characteristics? It's
like making a suitcase that only fits inside north american airplanes.
For the cost of the SD reader hardware why didn't Garmin make it
unlimited? Even XD memory (like Fuji and Olympus cameras use) with
it's smaller format could be an option.
