Really I could have sworn Garmin did that too.

Some Garmins allow averaging to be applied when creating a waypoint. It can't be used like Magellans averaging.

Excellent, do you think you could log for several hours to see what
happens, the 30 minute numbers are certainly pretty impressive. I
don't think you can turn off SBAS to see what would happen without
it..

The averaging is more effective than SBAS usually, so disabling SBAS doesn't change much.

The results of the eXplorist is not that much different from those of the previous Meridian or Sportrac models. The averaging creates impressive plots, but the recent Garmins basically perform the same.

You will see larger deviations occurring for short times if you log for a longer time. These are usually caused by constellation changes or receiver reconfiguration (if not multipath under worse conditions). Some of these can not even be averaged out by the Magellan. The longer you log, the 'closer' you get to the 'official' 15m accuracy spec.

the 15 meter accuracy spec should be without averaging. You should hit that spec most of the time with an instantaneous number. I know Magellan finds it difficult to produce an instantaneous number since the reading tends to lag what is really happening.
