The problem with this combination is that the base map of the unit is
american, and this basemap is not routable in Europe.
With a European unit, the basemap is European. The Basemap is a not very
detailed but routable map that covers the all continent. If you need to go
from area A to area B, you can download detailed map around A and detailed
map around B, and you do not need these 2 maps to be adjacent, because you
can leave the connection between the 2 detailed maps to the basemap, which
is routable. This way you save a huuuuge amount of memory, but you cannot do
that if your unit has the wrong basemap. If you are living in Europe, it is
therefore worth spending a few more Euros to buy a European unit ...
