I wonder which version of S&T you used, I am using Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005 which is included in the Works 2005 suite. The About screen on the installed software does not call itself S&T 2005, it reports the software and version as "Microsoft Streets & Trips (12.00.07.1200)."

I have it installed on my desktop and laptop machines and have not had any problem with it, not a single lockup.

The data (NavTeq is credited) seems good and current, and you can go online to download updates on road closures.

And S&T is pretty good software as far as building routes and actually navigating with it. In comparison to Street Atlas and some other softwares it lacks some features such as voice prompts and track and data logging abilities. But it is offered on Amazon for $25 and you can find OEM copies on eBay, at computer shows, etc., down around $15.00.

I wanted to try it, it was cheap, and now I'm using it on my laptop and home computers. I was surprised to find a bargain priced software from Microsoft that worked that well.

It also comes with versions for the Pocket PC and SmartPhone. The Pocket PC software is pretty much worthless. I loaded it to an iPAQ and it was horrible. As far as I remember, you created a route on a map on a PC with the desktop version, then uploaded the map and route to the Pocket PC, and then could view it and navigate on it there but that is it. If you wanted another route you had to go back and start over. The map/route generation and uploading process was very slow, it used huge amounts of memory for a small map area, and I quickly gave up on it being useful.

If someone is using S&T successfully on a Pocket PC I'd like to hear more about it, I may have given up on it too quickly.

It looks more and more to me like DeLorme bailed out on a product (Street Atlas 9) that is still drawing high compliments and is missed for its user's interface and look and feel.
