There are small differences between older models and even within a model via various software versions. But a well written application will account for these differences. If your GPS works with other apps then it is the problem with the software that you are evaluating. My OCX and class library are installed on thousands of machines and I never had a complaint about the 12 XL

I have an (old but faithful) Garmin 12XL S/W rev. 2.02 that refuses to communicate with an application that should read the tracks.

By the way, I have also tested the app with a Garmin GPSMAP 295, lates S/W version. The app did not work with that neither.
But, as I believe the author of the app when he says that it works with his Pilot III and that it works with other Garmins (but not with my Garmin 12XL) I have to ask the community whether the Garmin 12XL rev. 2.02 adhere to the latest version of the Garmin protocol specification??
(Clarification: the Garmin 12XL rev. 2.02 has S/W in ROM and is NOT (easily) upgradable).
