You can use your garmin USB GPS with my program (a nearly every GPS
software) with this tool:

And I found this note for other USB GPS devices (but I don't know if
that is right):

"Most USB GPS devices come with a serial port emulator, which will let
the GPS be used on a virtual serial port.
