CORS SUPPORTING POST-HURRICANE RECOVERY
Several CORS remain operational near the areas of Louisiana and
Mississippi that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Many of these
operational CORS are now collecting GPS data at a 1-second sampling rate
to better support airborne mapping in connection with post-hurricane
recovery efforts.
Unfortunately, telecommunications are currently non-existent to several
other CORS in the hurricane zone.
NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey thanks our CORS partners–the Louisiana
Spatial Reference Center; NOAA’s Forecast Systems Laboratory; Earl
Dudley Associates, Inc.; SJB Group, Inc.; UNAVCO, Inc.; the U.S. Coast
Guard; and the Florida Department of Transportation–for all the help
they are providing to increase the sampling rate at the currently
operational CORS and/or to restore telecommunications to the currently
non-operational CORS.
