Does anyone have any feedback on DeLorme products such as Topo USA and the Street Atlas.
DeLorme web site says they are compatible with Garmin and Magellan receivers (though they cannot transfer maps into the GPS unit perhaps they can track real time from the laptop).
Purpose, mostly for highway autorouting on small roads, finding National Parks, Forests and campgrounds, mostly using a laptop with a USB GPS receiver (in my case a Garmin GPS 18 or VistaC).

I've used Street Atlas occasionally for some years with several Garmin units. It shows you exactly where you are and what direction you're going. It's gotten me out of quite a jam on a couple of occasions. I don't use it much any more since I now have a mapping GPS. I've never gotten it to work via a USB connection, but it works fine via the serial port. Speed isn't an issue, so there's no disadvantage to using a serial port connection except the clunky cable -- providing, that is, that your laptop computer has a serial port. It works with any GPS that can put out NEMA data. That's just about any of them, including all the Garmins.
I was kind of underwhelmed by its autorouting capability when I tried it. But that was quite a long time ago, and it may well have been improved since then.
Topo USA works the same way, and I've used it a few times to find my way around logging roads. A nice feature is the ability to upload tracks and waypoints from my GPS to the Topo USA map, so I can see exactly where I went. It's particularly interesting on the 3D - type display. Topo USA autoroutes along roads, even minor ones, but I've never used this feature to see how good a job it does.
