One of the DeLorme forum guru's has figured out a way to make routable roads
connect to limited access roads, and we've had a lot of discussions on this.
You can make new on/off ramps, even connect an existing freeway to a new
one.
It's not worth the effort to do new freeways and add "all" the ramps and
connections to local roads, because the routing engine will try to stay off
your routable road because it's still a local road. However, if you only use
the new freeway and exit at only one or two exits, then connect those and it
will only take one via per road segment, to make it use the routable road
for the entire distance. The trick was unbelievably simple, and as well as I
know their products, I felt pretty stupid for not catching it myself years
ago.

Here is a screenshot of a freeway I made that connects two other freeways,
with one exit. (this is just a dummy freeway, it doesn't exist)
