Well, this is very slightly misleading. What Dan is
suggesting is that you connect to a Limited Access road "Off
Ramp" and then run your routable road along side the freeway
(or even right on top of the freeway [actually underneath
the freeway]). While this will work and it will get your
route to look right on the screen and on a printed map, the
program will instruct you with turns at each point. To me
it is a little unnerving to hear a turn instruction at an
off ramp that I am not supposed to take. :( There is a
suggestion from Delorme (If I understood them correctly or
maybe it is wishful thinking) that at some point in the
future you will be able remove superfluous turns from
routing which would eliminate this problem.
I still stand by my original statement that you CANNOT
connect DIRECTLY to a limited access highway with a routable
road and I totally disagree that you can make new off ramps.
What is being done there is to take an existing ramp and
then connect a long "Frontage Road". Unfortunately as I
have come to find out, you probably never will be able to
connect to limited access roads and it is even highly
unlikely that routable roads will ever be anything other
than a local road. Even then, this can be a very useful
tool that is not offered by any other program. In fact, the
only other program I know of that realistically allows you
to alter maps is OziExplorer used with Lowrance MapCreate
(Pre Version 4).
With that said, let me make it very clear, that even though
SA 2006 has a few problems, IMHO for the price there is not
any software on the market that will come close. It is the
only mapping software that I use and the 2006 version is far
and away the best to come out of Delorme (again IMHO). Do I
have a wish list, YOU BET, I do not believe any software is
perfect, but I am very happy with SA 2006 in the way I use
it.
