The best you can do is to load something, either one small segment
of a map or perhaps the marine POI database available at
http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=941 (I am not
sure that erases maps, but believe it does.)
Some older versions of MapSource would load an empty map set into
the GPSR. If you want to experiment with them, get them at
http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/agree.html.
