I'd think your data would be more meaningful if you didn't introduce
the additional variable of uncertain reception through your roof. As
long as your roof is dry and has no insulation with a metal foil layer
I'd expect you to get reasonable reception. But it won't be as good as
outside and it'll be subject to degradation whenever the roof is wet
from rain or even condensation such as dew.
Why not put an external antenna outside the house and run the cable
inside? External antennas like the Gilsson model are available for
less than $20 and even if your GPS receiver doesn't have an antenna
jack you could use a re-radiating antenna (about $50).
