Ipsos Insight released research today which suggests that Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation could become the next "breakout" cell phone feature. As part of a wider survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults on technology and communications trends, nearly 9 in 10 (86 percent) of 171 users of mobile devices that offer visual display screens say that having a GPS navigation feature would be either "very important" or "nice to have" on the next handset they purchase.
More meaningless so-called "research". Likely less than 9 out of 10 know what GPS is in the first place.
I have rash idea.
How about cell phones that can reliably place telephone calls and have any attention *AT ALL* paid to ergonomics.
My employer equips all delivery vehicles with cell phones ( at least 2 different service providers) . My route roughly covers Springfield, MO to Little Rock, AR to West Plains, MO and points between.
I would guess I have reliable service over no more than 60% of that area.
Both MO and AR use *55 for "State Police"/"Highway Patrol"
If I dial *55 on I430 or I40 north and west of Little Rock I'm handed off to Troop D of Missouri Highway Patrol in Springfield. [ Dialing 911 at least gives me one of 3 counties near Little Rock ]
That was before Cingular bought ATT, but since they haven't fixed towers from Marshall, AR north to MO line I presume problem still exists.
If a rep of Cingular reads this, please contact me. My email address *IS* valid.
