Newbie needing assistance.

Hi folks.

First time here I think.

I fly planes - small ones and not that fast.

I have (from way back) a Garmin 75. Boat unit.

It is good enough for me and originally it was for use in my car.

Recently I was flying and took it with me only for the sake of seeing
how it liked the flight.

It was about a 2 hour flight (leg) and it worked well until near the
end of the leg when it suddenly said "Poor GPS coverage", yet it was
tracking the max number of birds and all with good signals.

After landing and refueling, it was ok for a while but then spat the
dummy again, but luckily I didn't really need it.

On the return trip, it again spat the dummy and basically didn't work
for MOST of the biggest leg.

Cycling the unit alternates between only finding one/two birds (to
call them) or tracking them all, but "Poor GPS coverage" message.

The manual doesn't really say the specs but it does say something
about 90 KTS limit, but it isn't really that clear.

However, "Poor GPS coverage" and "You are going too fast" are
somewhat different problems.

The map was not working either.

I'm stuck with what to do.

One for use in the car is handy, but I guess status quo, I could keep
that one and get another for flying.

But then which one?

There are specific ones for flying, but they are a bit expensive.
:(

A PDA one with a spread*** would be handy for flight planning, but
I'm guessing the aircraft ones would/may have that built in, but I am
needing assistance.

Would anyone mind helping me with information on the
functions/benefits of different models?

Thanks in advance.
