Probably the least common feature on your list is support for an
external antenna connection.
If you really don't care about having a map capability then I'd
recommend Garmin's GPS76. It's a little bigger than most handheld
models but still easily carried and will fit in medium size pockets.
It has an RS-232 computer interface that supports both Garmin's
protocol and the industry standard NMEA and an MCX jack for an external
antenna (Garmin makes several models but other sources, like Gilsson,
are less expensive and work well). Waterproof and floats. It can be
set up to display a few fields (incl. coordinates in either lat/long or
UTM) in a relatively large font or a larger number of fields using a
smaller font.

Cost should be around $160 - $180 for the unit and $20 for the Gilsson
antenna or about $70 for Garmin's.
