How about a GPS for flying?

I see there is a thread "GPS for driving, boating and hackability"
but I am wanting to ask about a GPS for flying.

Not in the big fast planes, just the little "run about" ones.

Say upto 250 miles/hour.

Topography would be great, as would airspace maps, which are needed
to help keep you out of places where you shouldn't be.

Ok, plane shops sell them but I don't know if they really know what
they are selling.

Not to be rude to them, but unless you can find someone who has used
one and have a good old yak with them for a long time......

Anyone here into flying small planes and has any thoughts on which
ones to recommend?

TIA.
