I presume that you want to essentially have a fixed display of your
current coordinates. For radio transmission to helicopters, etc.
I'd suggest you consider older units. Still as rugged as they were a
few years ago, time tested & field proven. And, perhaps best of all,
fewer bells & whistles to get in the way. Mature firmware too.
For example, Garmin's III or III+ units have a good form factor
(horizontal) and a simplicity that's not really otherwise available
anymore. They're not 'current' anymore, but more than usable for the
purposes you describe.
Easily available via eBay for not a lot of cash. Garmin still repairs
the rare busted unit, and there are a lot of them out there.
