Query - Waypoint averaging and track on Garmin Map 76S

If someone has time:
1) When I use the time-average function to position average on my 76S,
the average waypoint is almost always on the periphery of the track,
that is on or very near the perimeter of the circle roughly around 95%
of the tracks. (I usually set up to track once a second for periods
generally 5 to 15 minutes. Why isn't it closer to the averaged center
of the circle?
2) Whe I average, in completing the average, two waypoints are created.
The first certainly appears to be the average, and the second the
position at the instant that the functional "enter" button is pressed.
I can "back away" form saving this 2nd waypoint. Is there something I
am doing wrong, or have a wrong idea about?
Thank you,
Marvin
