I don't think you should have to look to far for this all. The "issues" the Europeans have witH GPS are pretty well known.


To that I will note that GPS is up and running providing an awesome
PNT system to the world and is undergoing improvements that will
provide increased accuracy, robustness, etc.

Sure, but the question is "control" and "accountability". If you want have a system which can be used for applications which are that critical that human lives are at stake (like landing an airplane) somebody has to be responsable for the system.


As long as the US federal gouvernement insist on GPS being a militairy system first and that the civilian applications are secundairy to that and can be "closed down" whenever the militairy need is there, you don't have to be surprised that this is a situation which cannot go on forever.
If you have a system used for applications where peoples lives are at stake, somebody has to be accountable for it and therefor he/she has to be in control over it.




All commercial issues aside, you can image that the US gouvernement would do exactly the same thing if the positions would be reversed.
