....yet. What do you expect, *instant* results? I've been reading your
other thread on this, and it does sound like a bug, but this seems like
a pretty minor issue to get very worked up about. It would be nice if
it changed to daylight saving time automatically, but it doesn't seem
like that much of a problem to change it manually. You only have to do
it twice a year.

I don't have a 96C, but I have a 76CS. Given the physical similarities
between them, I suspect that the 96 works pretty similarly to the 76,
except that you have aviation data and maybe some additional functions.
I looked on my 76 and was surprised to see that "Course Up" is not an
option. Seems like my old GIII+ had that, but maybe that's a feature
Garmin has eliminated.

I haven't flown for about 20 years, but when I used to fly, my heading
on a leg didn't vary by more than a few degrees and that was normally
pretty slowly. Doesn't seem like the map should swivel enough to be a
problem. What am I not understanding about this?

Same unit as yours? Maybe you should ask them to email you a screen
capture of the setting.

What screen, and how did you try to turn it off?

Wait a minute, you just said that when you did it "via the menu it
wasn't kept". Different menu??

Is that when it's connected to external power? Because the backlight
*always* comes on at 50% when external power is used. I suspect that
this is the reason for all of your backlight problems.

How? I haven't had any problem with it.

The purpose of beta versions is to test new features, so it shouldn't
be surprising to find things in a Beta version that aren't in the
current non-beta version. Garmin usually brings out the final version
reasonably soon after the beta. So it shouldn't be long until there is
a release that handles the waypoint icons the same way the beta does.

The rest of your comments about the software are mostly a list of the
things you don't like about the way it works and your thoughts on how
it should work. You make a lot of good points. But it really isn't
reasonable to call something not working the way you think it should a
*problem*.

> The manual:

Garmin seems to have given up on writing manuals some time back. What
they call a manual now is little more than a list of features. I do
wish they would go back to writing real ones.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although you have listed a lot of complaints, most of them seem to be
about relatively unimportant issues. And you say these are driving you
to your wits end...? I would like to see Garmin improve the quality of
their firmware and make a few other changes, but as long as my receiver
performs its main function of navigation reasonably well, I don't go
nuts just because some trivial function like automatically adjusting
daylight saving time doesn't work.
