Handheld GPS for Alaska?

any suggestions? I live in Alaska and want a small / handheld GPS that
has good reception out in the wild.
I am thinking of garmin 60c or garmin 60cs because it sounds like
they're smaller/better battery life than equivalent magellans and
better reception than the smaller garmin legend/vista - lots of area
with dense trees, mountains etc so anyone with experience with
performance would be great. mostly south central AK but I'm down in
south east fairly often and make the occasional trip up north.
Waterproof is a must since I float a lot of small rivers etc.
Good roads on the base map for Alaska aren't much of an issue, I know
the main roads here pretty well already so doubt that I would be using
it for road navigation, although I suppose it might be handy whenever I
get out to the lower 48.
Doubt I'll do any geocaching but I have a young son now so maybe I'll
get into that - might be fun to do together.
