Have any GPS research teams tried to use the new theory of rational trigonometry yet? This is an approach to (planar) trigonometry which avoids altogether cos and sin and the inverse circular functions, and uses ordinary algebra to do all computations. It speeds up calculations in the planar case significantly, and I am wondering if this might be of interest to developers of GPS?

I think you may have a misconception... the PVT soltion in GPS receivers
is not slowed down by trig calculations.
