1) Can any lucky owner of the x variants confirm yet that the battery life really has been cut by ~2x from the basic 60C model (quotes 30 hours) to the CSx (17 hours)? I never got a real 30 hours from the 60C either, so I wonder if some of the delta is just 'marketing hype reduction'?
An S model will get considerably less if the compass is turn on.
It does say 'less if the compass is used a lot' so I assumed the 17 hours was without using it.
2) With the CS/CSx models can someone tell me how often you need to re-calibrate the altimeter, and what the unit does by way of 'on the fly, during use' re-calibration, to cope with changing barometric pressure? I sort of thought this might be in the documentation, but apparently not (Garmin trade secret maybe?).
Whenever the weather changes, like any other barometric altimeter. It is best to leave it on automatic calibration unless you know what you are doing.
I know what =I'm= doing, the question was what the unit was doing, however I think other folks have answered it (and I've been googling) - in auto mode it basically recalibrates itself continuously (over some time period which is not well defined anywhere).
