Re: Angle of Bank - How?

As others have stated, it's just a Rate of Turn indicator. If the rate
of change in your Ground Track approximates a standard rate turn
(2-minute turn), the aircraft symbol on the indicator with "bank" to
the first tick mark to indicate a standard rate turn. If less, it will
"bank" to a point less than the tick mark. If a more rapid turn, it
will "bank" to a point beyond the tick mark.

Many, many pilots that see this indicator assume it is doing much more
and actually showing bank. It doesn't. But, the combination of
"instruments" shown on the Panel Page of the GPSMAP 196/296/396 are a
nice backup in an emergency. Just be sure you understand how they work
and their limitations, since they don't work the same as the
instruments in the aircraft panel.

Hi guys,

I just saw a GPS in a plane that shows the angle of bank of the
aircraft.

THis didnt look like a very flash GPS either. It was some sort of
Garmin. Anyone know how the heck they derive angle of bank?
