Re: Garmin don't want to know about bugs

Map objects (lodging, roads, etc.) are assigned to zoom levels when the "map" is
created to give an easy criterion for the receiver to decide when to hide or
not. User waypoints don?t have this attribute and most users probably wouldn?t
bother setting it if a waypoint had a zoom level. So "better user waypoint
display" isn?t a high priority ? development time and program code space is
going into more important issues.

This isn't entirely true because depending on the 'Map Detail' global
setting more or fewer are displayed. So it's not just a single attribute
of each object. The software takes into account the level of detail you
requested and dynamically decides what to hide/show.

You talk about development priorities. Whose priorities, Garmin's or the
customer's? As a customer, my priority is fixing the model I own (and
which is supposed to still be in warranty), not the 10 models one year
down the line. And if my own model isn't fixed, then I will NOT buy the
next one, because I know that that will be treated the same.

I feel as if Garmin are putting their efforts into getting out as many new
models as they can, abandoning them as soon as they're out in order to
concentrate on the next ones. If that's the case I'm not buying.

The clutter doesn?t particularly bother me. I just zoom in and out as needed.
I?d rather see what?s there than have the receiver hide the waypoint that is
most important to me. The ?Highway Page? hides the user waypoints that I want
to see.

This is of course your own particular preference, for which there is a
specific setting: 'Hide Above = No'. 'Auto' means something entirely
different.
