I used 2005 last year and bought 2006 this year. I found it a worthwhile purchase. The data is newer, I found some roads in my area that were no on the 2005 version. Your results may vary of course.

What's missing? No ability to record a track and use the track data later. It will display a track but you can't do anything with it.

How about the GPS rate update ?

Not sure I understand your question. My USB GPS receiver (Altina GGM-308) defaults to 4800 Baud and that works fine. There is no Baud rate setting in the configuration panel so I assume that S&T either adapts itself to the receivers Baud rate or has to have 4800 which is the NMEA default.

Is it down to one second ?

My receiver outputs more like once every two seconds and S&T processes that.

Anyone use the pocket pc map version for PDAs ? How well does that
work?

I tried it with 2005, it sucked. Very simplistic, useless IMHO. Pretty much "send an image of a small area with a route to a Pocket PC". No address search or route generation could be done on the limited area map that I was able to (25 mile square or so) send to a PDA.

I bought 2006 this year after using 2005 some last year. I found 2006 to have the most up to date data I found. I like it very much for a research tool on a desktop or laptop PC and would travel with it for navigation if I were going to use a laptop.
