Re: MapSource unlock query - multiple / replacement units

Hi All,

I posted on here a couple of days ago about the reduced number of
tiles in City Navigator Europe v8 compared to City Select Europe v6.
This problem is making me consider buying a 60CSx to replace my 60CS,
but I'm concerned...

I own a 60CS and a 296 aviation receiver, and I want to be able to
upload maps to both, as I should be allowed to do. I have never
uploaded maps to the 296 (I'm still waiting for the datacard to
arrive...), but the 60CS is registered as the handheld which was
unlocked for CS6.

I bought the unlock for CN8, but haven't actually uploaded the maps
from it to anything - the tile size is an issue with the 60CS, and (as
I said) I have no datacard for the 296 yet.

I've looked on the Garmin unlock page for my account, and it tells me
that CN8 is unlocked for my 60CS. So, presuming I upload maps from CN8
to my 296, that is both unlocks used. If I buy a 60CSx, which I am
only considering because CN8 has the larger map tiles, I will
presumably have to buy *another* handset unlock from Garmin. Is that
correct?

Because if it is correct, Garmin have just lost a sale of a 60CSx, and
me as a customer... Change the map tile size so people with old
receivers are forced to upgrade, and then force them to buy yet
another map unlock to use the same maps with the new receiver that
you forced them to buy....

I've emailed Garmin about this, but haven't had an answer yet. I think
I'm right in assuming that I won't be able to use CN8 on both my 296
and a 60CSx - can anyone think of a way round this that doesn't
involve me paying Garmin any more money? I kind of feel that having
given them well over £2000 over the last few years for an eTrex
Summit, an eTrex Vista, a 60CS and a 296, plus MetroGuide 5 and
CitySelect 6, not to mention various car kits, cables and pouches,
I'm really not inclined to give them any more as a result of their
sharp practice with CN8... I'm in the mood to write them a sternly
worded letter, but I'm not convinced it will do me any good!

Simon

Simon,

E-mail me, and I will give you an address which will enable you to unlock
virtually any Mapsource product yourself, for $50. You can try out the
programme for free, generating time-limited codes ad infinitum, before
buying. If you buy a new Garmin GPS, you can change the unit i.d. and the
program will deliver.

There are no Western Union scams, money is transferred using a similar
programme to Paypal, and everything seems to me to be perfectly genuine.

I have absolutely no connection whatsoever with this software, I simply use
it.

Dennis.
