It would be nice, but more difficult to implement in a way that
prevents abuse. With the current lock codes there's no need to connect
to Garmin's website once you have a code that's valid for your
particular GPS serial number. So there'd be no way to prevent someone
from continuing to load maps onto the old GPS even after the code has
been 'revoked.' About the only method I could see would require you to
send the old GPS to Garmin and they could change or replace the serial
number and send it back.

I appreciate the cost of preparing the maps
and the need for the suppliers to make money, but keeping legitimate
customers happy should factor into that equation somewhere too.
You CAN'T just assume that the software goes with the unit when it is
licensable to two units and you decide to sell just one of the two it is
active for.

I think Garmin's argument would be that the second lock code is a free
bonus and benefit for those who have a second unit. But the first unit
you unlock and the software should be considered a package deal if you
later decide to sell.
