Great. iTunes for GPS.

No thanks. I'd rather be able to load new mapsets without having to get permission from Garmin each time.
But since you can't, you'd rather go without a solution? Your
nose, your face.

I've already got a solution. I buy the maps, get an unlock code from
Garmin, enter it once and never have to authorize the GPS ever again. When I sell the GPS, I sell the maps with it.

I find that a lot better than having to contact some Web site or
phone number every time I want to upload new maps just so we can
support the ability to revoke a lock code. That isn't in my
best interest, so why should I be in favor of it?

Selling the maps with the GPS is a good idea but not a very attractive solution. First it inflates the price of the GPS. If someone does not want the maps that you have loaded then you are out a customer. Plus why sell a map that is perfectly fine? You most likely will not get replacement value from a your sale. Why would someone pay you 100% replacement cost when they code just buy a brand new shrink wrapped copy? So it still ends up costing you for something you did not want to replace in the first place.
